Leonard F. Berg, Attorney at Law | East Alton, Illinois
Medicaid Planning • Estate Planning Attorney • Estate Administration & Probate Lawyer
While all the above-mentioned terms partially describe what our law firm does, they do not go far enough to fully portray our practice. Therefore, we have developed terms that more accurately define how our firm helps our clients.
We help people plan for all the transitions that happen in our lives, expected as well as unexpected. Often, transitions have to do with growing older. Others have to do with passing on. Many have to do with our immediate family members - spouses, children, and parents - but many have to do with extended family and the broader community.
Numerous issues confronting our clients are a "hybrid" issues. They are a mixture of legal issues and community resource issues. They have a legal element to them:
- What are the legal requirements to qualify for Medicaid benefits?
- I have been sued by a collections agency for a bill I didn't incur; now what?
- My parent has been abused at the nursing home. What do I do to get them out of there? How can I be sure it doesn't happen again in another nursing home? And, is there anything I can do to make sure no one else gets hurt?
They also have community resource elements as well:
- I have been cheated in a home improvement scam, now what do I do?
- What medical reports do I need to demonstrate that I fit within the legal definition of Medicaid eligibility?
- What social service agency action needs to be taken to get my application reviewed?
Our thirty years of practice in the region has made us familiar not only with all the legal issues, but with the community resources as well. We help our clients put all the resources together to resolve their problems.
Planning for the Disabled or Handicapped
Many issues arise in planning for disability. Some are the same as those that arise in planning for growing older. Others are unique to disability itself.
